LOS ANGELES – Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43) issued a statement on Donald Trump's failure to address the deadly surge in coronavirus cases and invoke the Defense Production Act (DPA) to provide adequate personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers and vulnerable communities:

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43), Chair of the House Financial Services Committee, expressed her strong support for H.R. 51, the Washington, D.C. Admission Act -- a bill to make D.C. the 51st state in our Union and give equal representation to 700,000 American citizens. H.R. 51 was passed by the House today, and the vote marked the first time in history that Congress has passed a D.C. statehood bill.

"Another day, and another Black or Brown kid has been shot in the back by police. These killings must stop. We demand it. The American people demand it.

"Andres Guardado is the latest young man of color killed by police gunfire. He was shot in the back. The officers involved did not wear body cameras.

LOS ANGELES – Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43) delivered an uplifting message to the African American community in recognition of Juneteenth, the holiday that recognizes the true end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865 – more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation ended slavery -- Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, arrived in Galveston, Texas to make the last slaves aware of their freedom. 155 years later, the fight for freedom, justice, and equality continue.
